B-01About
FPR is a law journal written by Indian law students.
FPR stands for First Precedent Research. It has three parts. The encyclopedia explains Indian law as it stands. The review looks at how the law got that way and where courts disagree. The proposals argue for law that India does not have yet. Browse shows how the 14 kinds of piece fit into those three parts.
The catalogue lists every entry we want, whether or not it has been written. Unwritten entries are marked Wanted in the browse pages. Each has a short note on what it should cover and a few cases or statutes to start from, and any law student can claim one.
B-02Who writes, and who edits
Writers
Any law student may submit.
Students at the National Law Universities lead the editorial work. Some entries start with a draft written by the editors and labelled as one. A student who claims that entry can rework the draft, and the piece then carries their name with the credit “Revised from an FPR editorial draft”.
Editors
Editors work with writers until a piece is ready.
The board at launch is made up of Iura editors, and a student board forms as submissions flow. Most forms are read by one editor. FP Research goes through double-blind peer review and is also read by a faculty or practitioner referee.
B-03Policies
Open access
Everything on FPR is free to read. FP Research asks for a free sign-in; its thesis and abstract are open to all.
Citation and permanence
Every published piece has a permanent address and a stable citation in the form (2027) 1 FPR 14. Pieces publish as they are accepted, and each year is compiled into a numbered volume.
Corrections
A published piece is changed only to correct an error. Each correction is dated and listed at the foot of the piece and in a public log. If the law changes, we publish a linked afterword instead.
Copyright
Authors keep the copyright in what they write. Readers may share and adapt a piece with credit for non-commercial use, under CC BY-NC 4.0.
Academic integrity
Authors declare that the work is their own, fully cited and unpublished. An editor checks every piece for originality before it is reviewed.
Responses
FP Research takes formal, reviewed replies, and the author may answer once. Every piece carries signed-in comments, which appear after an editor approves them.
Artificial intelligence
Authors may use AI tools for research and search. The prose must be the author’s own, and any use is disclosed and printed with the piece. A student building on an FPR editorial draft is credited as revising it.
B-04Publisher
FPR is published by Iura and is editorially independent of Iura’s other products.
Nothing on FPR is legal advice. To report an error, ask about your data or make a complaint, write to the editors.
